Take Control of Homework
So it doesn't Control You

Keep Things in Perspective
Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart.

Get More Involved
Keep your mind from wandering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with other or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you will have a great experience.
Demonstrate a good attitude towards home assignments, and you will begin to love doing it.

Organize the Information
People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you’re having trouble.

Take Control of Homework So It Doesn’t Control You Part 1

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn’t Control You
Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:
·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.
·         Build study habits that are essential in college.
·         Prepare for your classes
·         Get a sense of progress.

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.
Set the Mood
Create a good study area everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.
Know Where to Begin

Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.
Study at the Same Time Every Day
Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively

Note-Taking Strategies Part 3

Note-Taking Strategies
Part 3

After Class
As soon as class ends, review your notes and fill in any in blanks.
Underline, highlight and use symbols to sort through the information. If
You don’t understand something; get help from your teacher or Classmates.
After you’ve reviewed all your notes from class, in the left hand area of the page write down key words and questions your teacher might ask on a test.
At the bottom of each page, write a summary of the notes. This helps you digest what you’ve learned. It also improves your memory of the material for long term and test down the road.

Develop Good Study Habits /Decide When to Study

Develop Good Study Habits
Think of college as a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study, groups and doing homework.
Being organized and using your time we are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.
Decide When to Study
Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.
·         Figure out what block of time you have available throughout the day, in the evening and on weekends.
·         Consider what time of day you are most alert—there are morning people and night owls – and try to schedule your studying accordingly.
·         Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for a marathon session.

Sarah’s Academic Success Story Part 2

Sarah’s Academic Success Story
Part 2
My best study methods: I have different strategies for different types of test or subjects. For me, any type of math is exceptionally difficult so I had to spend extra time on that. I would go back through the homework problems focusing on the problems that I had extra difficulty on. Many times I would ask the teacher for additional study materials they could provide. If it was a class that required memorization or applying concepts I would create sort of study guide for myself many times focusing on what were they key focal points in the class. If I knew there were going to be essays I would try to take the terms and apply then to an example or create different questions on the concepts focused on throughout the semester.
My time management secret: I always always carry a plant with me. I even use different color highlighters to show what each event on my calendar is for. For example, pink is personal, yellow is school orange is work, blue is for appointments, I can see in bright yellow that is I have that project for finance due on Tuesday, I need to start working on it [the previous] Wednesday so I can  just get  it done. My Friends have always been amazed at how early I get things accomplished but that is really all I do.
